Today is the deadline for bills to be heard in an Illinois committee.  Thanks to the many club members and breeders who took the time to register your concerns, the three bills of primary concern to the AKC will not advance in the spring session.

These bills included HB 1902 (Mandatory Genetic Testing and Sterilization), HB 3367 (Providing animals with their own legal advocate in cruelty cases), and HB 3222 (Expanding violations for which an animal may be seized).  Read AKC’s previous alert for more information on these bills.

AKC and the Illinois Federation of Dog Clubs will continue to closely monitor existing legislation for possible amendments added this session and in the veto session anticipated later this year and will provide updates if action is needed.  For questions or more information, contact AKC Government Relations at doglaw@akc.org.
