The American Kennel Club’s Government Relations Department (AKC GR) has learned that the concerning breeder ordinance currently under consideration in DeKalb County, Georgia, will likely be deferred again by the Board of Commissioners County Operations Committee, which will send the ordinance back to the full Board of Commissioners. Then, in expectation of a substitute ordinance, the full Board of Commissioners will likely also defer consideration at its May 13th meeting, which will send the issue back to the County Operations Committee.
AKC GR will continue working with DeKalb County residents and AKC’s Georgia federation, the Georgia Canine Coalition, to ensure that whatever animal ordinance DeKalb County ultimately adopts will be fair to responsible purebred dog breeders.
AKC GR will continue providing updates on DeKalb County as developments warrant. For more information, email AKC GR at doglaw@akc.org; or the Georgia Canine Coalition at outland@laberge.org.
