Physical Traits and Grooming Needs
The Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka is a diminutive companion, standing no more than 11 inches tall and weighing between 7 and 9 pounds. They have a sweet, intelligent expression with a beard, mustache, and long hair that is often tied up in a bow.
Bolonki are set apart from their cousins in the Bichon family by their colorful coats — they range from light fawn to solid black, sometimes with small patches of white. A non-shedding breed, the Bolonka’s hair is thick, soft, and dense, and falls in large, bouncy curls or waves.
Regular grooming keeps the Bolonka’s signature coat in shape, though their natural curls give them a tousled look. Experts recommend brushing the coat daily with a pin brush and conditioning spray. Weekly baths may be required, with a blowout to prevent mats from forming. Many pet owners will trim their Bolonki into a “teddy bear” cut for easier maintenance.
