Are you looking for information to start your breeding program?  Or do you want to expand your knowledge and make some changes to your existing program?  The American Kennel Club’s Canine College is here to help!

The “ABCs of Dog Breeding” series is available, with courses that have a range of topics for the novice breeder as well as the experienced one.  The courses provide an interactive, visual and user-friendly experience. Written in collaboration with Dr. Claudia Waller Orlandi Ph.D., the series focuses on the art and science of breeding.

Each ABCs course is self-paced and available at no cost to the learner.  Examples of the offerings are:

 

  • ABCs of Dog Breeding: Breeding Basics – Recommended for the beginning breeder to gain valuable insights.
  • ABCs of Dog Breeding: Whelping & Medical Intervention – Designed to guide you through the whelping process and prepare you for possible complications.
  • ABCs of Dog Breeding: Canine Anatomy – Developed in three parts, this course focuses on evaluating structure and balance, the dog’s body and the dog in motion.

 

Any of the courses can help you satisfy your Bred with H.E.A.R.T. education requirement, and you can opt to purchase a certificate for display if desired.  Bred with H.E.A.R.T. membership is free. If you haven’t joined read more then apply via the easy, online application .

Canine College also offers a collection of webinars that allow the learner to hear from leading industry experts to include Ovulation Timing in the Bitch, Interpreting Estrous in a Bitch, and Canine Brucellosis.  These are provided in collaboration with the Theriogenology Foundation and AKC Canine Health Foundation.

AKC’s Disease and Sanitation is a self-paced program for pet owners and pet industry professionals covering everything from disease symptoms to prevention strategies for diseases impacting dogs, and more.  Information about all of these courses and others can be found on AKC Canine College.
