Registering with the AKC connects dog owners to a community that values purebred pride, offering them lifetime benefits and carrying on the legacy of your beloved breed. As a breeder and exhibitor, you understand the value of AKC support. But puppy buyers don’t always understand the importance of AKC registration, so we have gathered some meaningful specifics that you can share with them.

Help Your Puppy Buyers Register Their Puppies

As a dedicated breeder you play a crucial role in preserving your breed, and the free AKC Breeder Toolkit makes it easy to ensure that each puppy gets registered. Here are some of the many ways you can register your puppies with the AKC:

  1. Prepay for Registrations at a Discount

You can prepay for your puppies’ registrations online at a discounted rate using AKC Breeder Toolkit. With Prepaid Registration, AKC has made it hassle-free for you to ensure 100% registration of your litters. You also get benefits like discounts on registration packages, pedigrees, and AKC Reunite!

  1. Encourage Owners to Register Online

The easiest way for you or the new owners to begin registration is by going to www.akc.org/dogreg.

Registering with the AKC offers a lifetime of benefits for humans and dogs alike, including:

  • The opportunity to learn about your dog’s family tree with an AKC Certified Pedigree
  • Access to AKC ReuniteSM Microchip Enrollment
  • Exclusive offer(s) from AKCRx online pet pharmacy
  • A free AKC Pupdate enrollment for weekly emails that provide personalized advice for your puppy’s breed and age
  1. Complete Registrations by Mail

When buyers pick up their puppies, plan a little time to go over the application with them. Show them how to fill it out, where to choose the package they want, point out the address to send the completed form to, and make sure they can contact you with any questions about it.

Registrations help to support AKC programs including Conformation Dog Shows, Companion Dog Sports, Performance Dog Sports, AKC Family Dog Program, the AKC Title Recognition Program, and the breeders who participate in them. But why should this matter to someone who doesn’t plan to show? Training, showing, and trialing all provide access to current information on their breeds and a good opportunity to evaluate their dogs, seeing how they compare to others of their breed. They learn the good and bad points of their dogs, including what they will attempt to correct in future breedings. Dogs shown in conformation must be around other people and dogs, making temperament as important as looks.

Buyers looking for exciting things to do with their dogs will want to register their puppies. Share with them that AKC registration provides eligibility to compete in AKC sports like AKC Trick Dog, Fast CAT, Agility, AKC Scent Work, Obedience, and more. These will open the door to a whole new world of ways they can have fun with their dogs and meet new people.

Registrations help AKC support dogs and humans through these programs:

  • The AKC Canine Health Foundation is dedicated to advancing the health of all dogs and their owners by funding scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to prevent, treat and cure canine disease.
  • AKC Rescue Network is the largest network of dog rescue groups in the country and was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in late 2013. One hundred sixty unique breeds are currently represented within the network.
  • AKC Reunite is the nation’s largest non-profit pet microchip and recovery service. Its mission is to keep pet microchipping and enrollment affordable, with no annual fees, so more lost pets can find their way home. As a 501c3, AKC Reunite has given back over $16 million to support working K9s and pet disaster relief efforts. The AKC Reunite K9 Cop Grant Program matches funds from AKC clubs to help police departments throughout the United States purchase K9 police dogs. To date, they’ve awarded almost 900 grants, totaling $6.6 million.
  • The AKC Humane Fund supports women’s shelters, assists groups that rescue pets, awards scholarships, and provides education through the AKC library, one of the world’s largest libraries dedicated to dogs.
  • The AKC Museum of the Dog preserves, interprets, and celebrates the role of dogs in society and educates the public about the human-canine bond through its collection of art and exhibits that inspire engagement with dogs.
  • The AKC Government Relations Department is dedicated to protecting the rights of all dog owners, promoting responsible dog ownership and ensuring that laws governing dog ownership and breeding are reasonable, enforceable and non-discriminatory.

Everything you do helps you produce puppies that make the best companions, whether or not they will compete, and AKC thanks you for ensuring that they all are registered!
