The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest purebred dog registry and advocate for all dogs, today announces the expansion of its AKC Safety in the Salon course.

The AKC recognizes the importance of proper grooming for the health, well-being and overall comfort of dogs. By educating on the best practices in grooming safety, the AKC helps teaches pet care professionals in the most up-to-date safety practices, so they can provide the best care possible to pets and for their owners.

The course is designed to cover best practices focusing on pet care, health and safety and to enhance the knowledge and practices of trained groomers to ensure that these needs are met for all dogs in a salon. It is currently held onsite at grooming expos and industry trade shows around the country and will be made available on Canine College, AKC’s education portal, by the end of the month.

“The safety of our canine companions is a key concern for owners,” said Mark Dunn, SVP of Registration and Customer Development. “The course provides groomers with access to more information and safety procedures that go above and beyond the standard.”

The course will be held at the World Dog Show Expo taking place at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Seacaucus, NJ June 9-11, 2017, and will be taught by AKC Judge and professional groomer, Susan Sholar. World Dog Expo will also feature an interactive grooming salon, which will showcase the entire dog grooming process to attendees of the expo.
