From skateboarding dogs to cats working the runway, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to meet these and more than 200 different dog and cat breeds up close and personal when the American Kennel Club (AKC®) and The International Cat Association (TICA) host the fourth annual AKC Meet the Breeds® event October 20 & 21 at the Javits Center.
Sponsored by PetPartners, Inc. a leading pet healthcare provider, AKC Meet the Breeds is the world’s largest showcase of dogs and cats and offers pet lovers a unique opportunity to play with some of the country’s rarest dog and cat breeds while educating themselves about responsible pet ownership and choosing the right pet for their lifestyle.
“We’re excited to introduce the public to the broad range of dog and cat breeds and show everyone just how much fun they can have with them,” said AKC Meet the Breeds Spokesperson Gina DiNardo. “From performing tricks and dancing with your dog to racing through an obstacle course, attendees will have the chance to learn how to turn their own family pet into a star.”
In addition to the more than 200 different dog and cat breeds, AKC Meet the Breeds will include:
- Beefy the Skateboarding Bulldog. Watch Beefy skateboard his way around the Purina® Pro Plan® Performance Ring and learn a few tricks you could take home to your dog.
- Cats Hit the Runway in the fourth annual Kitty CATure feline fashion show. From Holiday looks to a sneak peek at the upcoming spring lines, see cats work the runway in the latest creations from designer Carla Reiss.
- Dancing with the Dogs. Watch Sundae the Dancing Sheltie perform moves that could rival “Dancing with the Stars.”
- Dogs and Cats Race Against the Clock in the Fast-Paced Sport of Agility. See dogs and cats jump through hoops and weave through polls just like an Olympic athlete.
- Meet a True Four-Legged Hero. See local four-legged hero “Marconi,” a Spinone Italiano who does therapy work with his owner Cooper Lawrence in New York City, receive the AKC Humane Fund’s Award for Canine Excellence (ACE) Empire State Award for his work helping patients with serious brain traumas.
