AKC and CFA Reveal the Inner Dog & Cat
Of Each Cast Member of MTV’s Popular Reality Show

From barking loudly about who has a crush on who to clawing over a boyfriend at the club, each week the cast of MTV’s The Jersey Shore find themselves fighting like cats and dogs.

Inspired by New York City’s October 16 & 17 Meet the Breeds™ event, the world’s largest showcase of cats and dogs, the American Kennel Club® (AKC) and Cat Fanciers’ Association® (CFA) looked at the distinct personalities and characteristics of more than 200 dog and cat breeds to determine the best fit for the personality and character of each Jersey Shore Cast Member.  Among them:

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino– Is known for his physique.  He is passionate about hitting up the gym and hitting on the ladies.
Dog Breed:  The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is known for his lean muscle and great courage.  While sweet-tempered the breed also possesses determination, a trait “The Situation” puts into effect when chasing the ladies.
Cat Breed: The Oriental has a body that is rock solid. If there was a cat breed with “six pack abs”, this one would be it. Orientals are also loving lap cats.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi – Has made the hair “poof” infamous.  While very friendly Snooki struggled to form connections with other members of the cast, but eventually clicked with them and formed a strong friendship with “JWoww.”
Dog Breed:   The Shih Tzu stands out in the dog world with its long, flowing double coat often topped with a “poof” when in the show ring. The breed is sweet and playful, but not afraid to stand up for itself.
Cat Breed:  The Selkirk Rex is a breed that is famous for its “out of control” longhair coat. While they always seem to be having a bad hair day, they are adorable cats that will brighten your life.

Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio A DJ, who has a tanning bed in his home, “DJ Pauly D” spends a substantial amount of time on his hair daily, taking great pride in his appearance.
Dog Breed:  Affenpinschers strut around proudly.  They usually get along fine with other animals, but if threatened by another dog, the breed will protect itself.
Cat Breed:  American Curls have ears that curl back in a graceful arc, and they always wear a happily-surprised expression.

Jenni “JWoww” Farley- Is attentive to her looks, always finding time to pamper herself.  She loves showing off for men at clubs, even though she has a boyfriend at home.
Dog Breed: Japanese Chin are alert and enjoy being pampered.  The breed also loves an audience and sometimes will make up their own tricks to show off.
Cat Breed:  The Devon Rex is the clown of the cat breeds and a true show-off. Their zippy personality and ultra-cute looks make them a perennial favorite.

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro – Was set on just playing around at the shore, but fell for Sammi “Sweetheart.” The two started dating, fighting then making up.
Dog Breed: Boxers are playful and extremely loyal and devoted to their families.
Cat Breed: The Havana Brown needs no obedience training, and even if it got some, it wouldn’t work.  This is an independent and single-minded, yet a very loving and loyal breed.

Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola – Calls herself a sweetheart, but causes drama when both Ronnie and “The Situation” begin fighting over her.  Not just a pretty face, Sammi is also sporty and played soccer while in college.
Dog Breed:  The English Toy Spaniel is a gentle, loving breed that is very intelligent. The breed’s primary purpose is companionship, but also excelled historically as a hunting dog.
Cat Breed: The Tonkinese always wants to be your friend. They are fun loving whether in your home or the judging ring.  Given the opportunity to catch a mouse, they’d rather play with it than anything else.

Vinny Guadagnino – A self proclaimed “Mama’s boy,” Vinny sometimes clashed with “The Situation,” but never seriously.  He made it a priority to meet and be friendly with as many ladies as possible.
Dog Breed:  A mild-tempered and affectionate companion dog, the French Bulldog enjoys human companionship and is generally an active, alert, and playful breed.
Cat Breed: The Singapura never met a hand it didn’t love to have pet it.  They are quiet cats, always devoted to their “person”.

From the Afghan Hound to the Turkish Angora, the Meet the Breeds event will showcase 160 AKC registered dog breeds and 41 CFA registered cat breeds in booths individually decorated to depict each breed’s country of origin, historical purpose/function, and attributes as a family pet.  The family-friendly event is an opportunity for potential pet owners to interact with responsible breeders and play with dogs and cats while educating themselves about responsible pet ownership and choosing the right pet for their lifestyle.

Tickets allow admittance for one day and can be purchased online at www.meetthebreeds.com.
