NEW YORK, NY– The American Kennel Club® is pleased to welcome four students participating in the 2008 AKC® Internship Program. The program is geared towards college students with a background and interest in purebred dogs and is designed to further their professional development, as well as help AKC identify potential employees with experience in both AKC operations and the sport.
AKC interns will work on specific projects aimed at their interests and career goals. In addition, they will have weekly meetings with a variety of AKC speakers to expose them to all facets of AKC.
The following students will be employed at AKC as interns for a period of eight weeks, from June 2 to July 25, 2008:
New York Headquarters
- Kari Dalane – Archives. Kari is from Vernon, New Jersey and is working toward a degree in Philosophy at the University of Vermont. A member of the Border Terrier Club of America and Northeast Border Terrier Club, Kari breeds Borders and has participated in conformation, Junior Showmanship and the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program with her dogs. She also plans on becoming more involved in Earthdog events after graduation. Kari hopes to work for a nonprofit organization in the future.
- Amelia Gredys – Communications. Amelia comes from Louisville, Nebraska. She is currently a student at Metropolitan Community College in Nebraska, but plans to transfer to the University of Nebraska, Omaha to study Business Management. A participant in both conformation and junior showmanship, Amelia breeds and shows Borzoi and also has two show Whippets. She is a member of the Borzoi Club of America, the American Whippet Club and the Nebraska Kennel Club. Amelia has shown in Junior Showmanship multiple times at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and plans to work toward obtaining her Junior Showmanship judging license.
- Lindsey Kamrath – Publications. Lindsey’s hometown is Palos Verdes, California. She is a Journalism major and Religious Studies minor at California State University, Long Beach. Lindsey breeds and exhibits Pomeranians and is a member of the American Pomeranian Club as well as local City of Angels and San Diego Pomeranian clubs. After graduation, Lindsey plans to work toward a Master’s degree in either journalism or religious studies, and would like to have a career involving dog magazines or books.
Raleigh Operations
- Mike Kennedy – Event Operations. Mike lives in Cary, North Carolina. He just completed his first year at North Carolina State University, where he is on the pre-vet track and studying Biological Science and Business Management. A former junior handler, Mike breeds and shows Pembroke Welsh Corgis and Tibetan Spaniels and has attained several conformation and companion titles with his dogs. He plans to pursue his Junior Showmanship judging license in the future.
