New York, NY – In the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, the American Kennel Club (AKC) and AKC Companion Animal Recovery (AKC/CAR), are working closely with the Florida Association of Kennel Clubs (FAKC) to help animals in areas of Alabama and North Carolina. The AKC is in the process of coordinating large donations of flea and tick products to animal shelters in Hendersonville, NC and Dothan, AL.

Recently, the AKC also sent dozens of crates to the Vero Beach Humane Society and Citrus Animal Services in Inverness, FL.

“The AKC continues to assist The Florida Association of Kennel Clubs by expanding relief efforts to animals in need, not only in Florida but in North Carolina and Alabama as well,” said Dennis B. Sprung, AKC president and CEO. “There is still a great number of displaced animals in those areas and we are committed to helping in any way we can.”

To date, significant donations of water, microchips, scanners, crates, a water purifier, space blankets, leashes, collars, fencing, batteries, flashlights and film have been made by AKC and AKC/CAR.
