
Thousands of dog-lovers from all 50 states and 14 countries will flock to New York City in February in anticipation of the famous Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
For those planning to come early, here’s an easy itinerary for the perfect dog-filled weekend. If you aren’t in the city, you can still stream many of the events live on AKC.TV.
Pups & Pints – Thursday, Feb. 7
What’s better than starting off the weekend early with a Thursday night happy hour? Meet more than 16 of the most popular and rare dog breeds while enjoying a beer and learning about your potential next dog.
The event is ages 21+ and takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Long Island City at LIC bar, just one stop from Manhattan. Tickets are $25 and are good for one beer and unlimited dog petting. Proceeds benefit the AKC Humane Fund.
Progressive Dog Club Show – Friday, Feb. 8
Get to know the Toy Group at the 95th Progressive Dog Club Toy Specialty Show. If you’re staying near Madison Square Garden, the show is right nearby. The event takes place at the Penn Top Ballroom in New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania on the 18th floor. The show hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you can’t make it, stream select events on AKC.TV online on any device or by downloading the AKC.TV app on Roku, Apple TV, or AmazonFireTV.
Meet the Breeds – Saturday, Feb. 9
Seven dog groups, 100+ breeds, and one Saturday in New York City. Does it sound like the perfect day? Westminster’s annual Meet the Breeds is the perfect place to pet hundreds of dogs and cats and talk to breeders. Meet the Breeds is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Piers 92 and 94 in New York City on Saturday, Feb. 9. Advance ticket information is available here. Ticket prices at the gate are $35 for adults and $10 for children age 11 and younger. Can’t make it? A live show from Meet the Breeds will air at 12 p.m. on AKC.TV.
Museum of the Dog – Sunday, Feb. 10
Celebrate the grand opening of the AKC Museum of the Dog! The museum is open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and Friday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday at 101 Park Ave. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and $10 for students, seniors, youth and military veterans. You can also become a museum member for unlimited admission and more.
Westminster Dog Show – Monday & Tuesday, Feb. 11-12
And of course, the Westminster Kennel Club dog show will take place on Monday and Tuesday. If you can’t make it in person, a full schedule of streaming events is available so you can take part in the action from the comfort of your home.
