Flagship AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day, September 2017.

–Celebrate by Hosting an Event–

Owning a dog has endless pleasures and rewards, but it’s important to be aware of the responsibilities that come along with it. AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days (AKC RDO Days) are fun community events that AKC dog clubs and other pet-related organizations host throughout the year. The nationwide initiative educates the public about the importance of being a responsible dog owner and celebrates the deep bond between humans and their canine companions.

Flagship AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day, September 2017.

Each year, the American Kennel Club® calls on its more than 5,000 affiliated dog clubs and other pet-related organizations from around the country to participate in AKC RDO Days by hosting a community event that includes activities such as: dog sport demos, breed parades, safety around dog presentations, Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) and AKC Temperament testing, microchip clinics and more.

All efforts to host an event are appreciated and welcomed, from adding a public education table to your next dog show to creating a day-long festival. The first 500 clubs and organizations that register will receive a kit full of free giveaways and a searchable event listing on the AKC website. Some giveaways for 2021 include car decals and RDO wristbands.

The American Kennel Club is grateful to those who join us each year in promoting responsible dog ownership. We invite you to celebrate the human-canine bond in 2021 by hosting an AKC RDO Day of your own.
