Issues at the City, County, and Metropolitan Levels, and in US Territories

Florida – The following cities have introduced or enacted retail pet store ordinances, aimed at reducing the definition of hobby breeders to reduce contribution of hobby breeders to retail pet stores. These ordinances are a part of a large, coordinated effort in South Florida:

Coconut Creek, FL – The ordinance was heard the first time, and they have agreed to work with AKC staff on an amended ordinance and will be heard for a 2nd time on May 28th.

Margate, FL – The first reading of the ordinance will be today, May 6th

Pompano Beach, FL – They approved their amended version of the ordinance that aligns with the newly passed SB 1004 bill that the AKC worked on with legislative staff.

North Miami Beach, FL – They approved their ordinance that specifically enacts the limit of a hobby breeder only being allowed one litter per year per adult animal.
