As part of AKC’s Canine Officer Program, 13 dogs were honored by the Wilmington Kennel Club in April. The K-9 officers received recognition for their work at a celebration in Bear, Delaware in conjunction with the New Castle County Police Department and their respective handlers.

Six of the dogs (Guci, Thor, Loki, Ax, Max and Monty) are German Shepherds. Five K-9s (Ace, Figo, Champ, Nitro and Diesel) are Belgian Malinois, and two are German Shepherd-Malinois crosses (Aiko and Joseph).

The dogs and their handlers received AKC Canine Officer Recognition Certificates and rosettes from the Wilmington Kennel Club in celebration of the unit’s 30th anniversary.

Additionally, the Wilmington Kennel Club donated $2,000 to the New Castle County Police Department’s K-9 Unit to facilitate the purchase of two K-9 armored vests.

The Canine Officer Program, which began earlier this year, has now recognized a total of 15 K-9 officers.
