Jennifer Isaacs of Kansas City, KS, shared this wonderful story and video
of Red Rooney, her Beagle Mix who has an incredible, “Wags to Riches” story.
Red was rescued after a three-month stay at the Lawrence Humane Society in Lawrence, KS. Originally brought there for “running at large,” shelter life was not easy for Red; he yearned every day for the slightest bit of attention.
Once settled into his new home, it became evident that Red was very skillful and often sought out interaction. Flash forward, three years, who would’ve known the people, and places Red has seen! Red has overcome all obstacles in his way; it was as though he knew from the very beginning that he wanted to prove himself against all odds, showing how a little ole’ shelter dog, can leave a big print in one’s heart!
Since then Red has achieved recognition as an outstanding member of the canine community with the title of AKC Canine Good Citizen and is an avid member of the Loving Paw’s Animal Assisted Therapy Program. Within the program, Red has brought smiles to individuals young and old, ranging from kindergarten programs, interacting with troubled youth, and even hospice care. Red has been a staple in many humane society events, and has been featured in a number of print articles. In all, there is no doubt that Red thrives by bringing smiles and joy into people’s lives repaying those very lives who gave him a chance!
Red is a member of the AKC Canine Partners program for all dogs, including mixed-breeds and rescues.
