Rio OAP OJP, owned by Richard & Susan McMickle of Fuquay-Varina, NC, was a street dog, picked up and taken to the shelter, where the McMickles adopted her. Today, she is happy & is competing at the Excellent level of AKC Agility through the AKC Canine Partners program. Susan tells her story:
Rio is a wonderful Am-Staff mix, rescued from Wake County Animal Shelter. She was picked up as a street dog and after two months was set to be put down until a foster family took her in, prior to us seeing her and taking her home. She had so much energy so we decided to take her to Bon-Clyde Learning Center in Sanford for obedience classes and then started agility training. Once we started private lessons with Bonnie Buchanan, she really blossomed.
She loves going to class so much that when she sees me putting on my running pants and shoes, she starts talking and running around the house. Bonnie records our runs in lessons sometimes, and Rio is always smiling.
We just rescued another Am-Staff mix, Roddy, who just competed in his first competition a couple of weekends ago. We are very proud and blessed doggie parents to have given these two street dogs another chance in life.
