Junior Report: Emily Burrier

My name is Emily Burrier. We may have met at shows, or maybe you haven’t heard of me at all! By occupation, I am a dog trainer, a CGC evaluator, a desk receptionist, a groomer, and a handler. I have participated in AKC Junior Handling events for several years. Though most importantly, like all of you reading this, I am a lover of animals with a unique love for the breeds that I own and devote my knowledge to.

I have competed in almost every AKC sport there is. Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Scentwork, Coursing Ability, Dock Diving, and many more. I have several dogs, but I would love to introduce my most influential dog to my success. Her name is Sophie. We have had more challenges than I would like to admit, but she has taught me more than I ever knew I could learn. She is my first dog to compete in every AKC sport I have participated in and was the first AKC dog that belonged to only me. While we have earned quite a few humbling accomplishments, I am unable to picture my dog sports career as a handler without her. She continues to teach me each day that the true meaning of being a handler lies in the bond that you have with your dog, and how you can showcase the value of your team work together.

I look forward to many more years of competing in companion events with many dogs including Sophie. I hope that our journey inspires both new and experienced handlers alike, to never give up on chasing their dreams, even if they seem impossible. I would like this opportunity to thank each and every person that has made an invaluable impact on my ability to participate in AKC events. I believe that behind every successful handler, there are many wonderful mentors, even those with seemingly small roles. Thank you to every handler and most importantly, Junior Handlers that prove we are ready to learn, grow, and help others. We are all the future of our sports.
