Fun Game to Increase Focus
This issue’s quick tip is contributed by Nan Daley of California, who has earned the prestigious AKC Obedience Trial Championship on two rescue All American Dogs. Nan plays the Airplane Game to encourage her dogs to look at her.
- With your dog in a sit, step in front to face him
- Hold a treat in both hands.
- Bring the treat in one hand down to dog’s nose to let him know it’s there, then raise both arms up and out at shoulders.
- Wait until the dog gives eye contact, then reward from either hand. Repeat a couple of times.
- Soon your dog will learn to look at your face, regardless of where your hands are!
