Meet Finya Logan: Her Dog Sports Career is Off to a Great Start!

Name: Finya Logan
Age: 13
Hometown: Denham Springs, Lousiana
Grade: 7th
Family: Parents, Byron and Antje Logan

AKC: How old is your dog and how did he come into your life?

Finya: Ryuk is a 3-years-old Dachshund mix. I was looking for my own first dog when I came across adorable little Ryuk. He was 4 months old and located at a local rescue. The application list was long, but thankfully they decided to place him with our family.

AKC: What got you started in training and competing with dogs? Tell us about what dog training has meant to you.

Finya: I started training a few years after my mom found agility, because it was just so much fun in my eyes. I wanted to have a dog for myself that I can run and have fun with! Dog training to me means you go out there and have fun. Even if you don’t win anything or improve slowly just enjoy every moment. It makes me happy to see my dog having a great time.

AKC: Is your family involved in dog training/showing?

Finya: Yes, my mom helps with the training, helps others train and runs her own dog. My dad comes out to cheer us on and support us.

AKC: What sports does your dog compete in and what titles/honors has he earned?

Finya: We compete in FastCAT (BCAT), Agility (NA NAJ OF), and Barn Hunt (RATN). Ryuk also has his CGC, ATT and Trick Dog Novice titles.

AKC: Tell us about any other dogs you may have – names, ages and what sports they compete in.

Finya: I occasionally run Trixie, my mom’s dog. She is a 6-years-old All American. She competes in Agility, Barn Hunt, FastCAT, and Dock Diving.

We have a puppy that will start to compete soon. His name is Vapor. He is a one-year-old Australian Shepherd and plans are to compete in Agility, FastCAT, Herding, Barn Hunt, Dock Diving, and possibly Rally.

AKC: Do you own any “non-dog” pets?

Finya: Yes, we also have three cats, a bird, and two rats we use for Barn Hunt practice.

AKC: What are your goals in the sport of dogs?

Finya: My goal is to make it in the Junior European Open Team in Agility. I also want to help others with getting started in Agility, but don’t know where to start yet.

AKC: Do you plan do to something animal related as a career?

Finya: No, I want to be a doctor one day, but animals will always play a big part in my life.

AKC: What extracurricular activities are you involved in addition to dog sports?

Finya: I play volleyball, dance, and love to draw and paint. A big shout out to all my dog friends, family and Red Stick training partners. Thank you for all the support.
