Do you love art, dogs and winning prizes? Then we have great news!

The American Kennel Club is hosting an art contest for students in grades K-12 as well as undergraduate college students. Artwork will be on display at the Meet The Breeds Event at The Great American Dog Show located at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center in Chicago, IL, August 25-27th. In addition, winning art will be displayed at the Museum of the Dog in New York City.

    Who can enter the contest?

    The AKC Meet The Breeds Art Contest is open to all legal residents of the city of Chicago and surrounding areas that are in grades K-college.

    When are entries due?

    Entries are accepted beginning on April 12, 2023. All entries must be submitted by July 31, 2023. Art will be submitted digitally through this link. If the entrant is under the age of 18, a parent/guardian must submit this form.

    What type of art will be accepted?

    Art must be created on a 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper. The picture can be created using drawing, painting, mixed media, or digital art. The art must be an original picture (not copied from somewhere or someone else) and must be created by you. It cannot have been submitted to another contest or promotion.  It must be uploaded through this link. This will be your entry form.

    Is there a theme?

    Yes. The art should be based on the theme “Dogs in Chicago.”

    Where do I send my art?

    Students will take a digital photograph of their artwork, fill out the form and upload it using this link.

    How will the art be judged?

    The entries will be split into four grade level categories: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 and College

    The art will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

    What is the prize?

    All finalists and winners will have their art displayed at The Great American Dog Show located at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center in Chicago, IL, August 25-27th.

    Each finalist will receive a certificate and 2 Tickets to the event for good for 1 adult and 1 child.

    In each grade level group, the prizes are as follows:

    1st-$50 Amazon Gift Card and Rosette

    2nd-$25 Amazon Gift Card and Rosette

    3rd-$15 Amazon Gift Card and Rosette

    In addition to grade level group prizes, “Best in Show” will receive a $100 Amazon gift card and Rosette. “Reserve Best in Show” will receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card and Rosette. The “People’s Choice” will receive a $100 Amazon gift card and Rosette.

    A $500 prize will be given to the school that the Best in Show winner lists on their entry form and will be designated for art supplies. If the winner is not in school, the prize will be awarded to a school designated by the winner.

    Anyone who enters the contest will have the opportunity to purchase 2 discounted tickets to the event.

    How will I find out if I am a finalist/winner?

    On or about August 31, 2023, AKC will send an email to the parent/legal guardian of the finalists and winners, notifying them. AKC will use the email address provided on the entry form. Each parent must acknowledge the message within 48 hours. The finalist’s artwork must then be mailed to:

    The Best in Show/Reserve Best in show will be awarded on the evening of Saturday, August 26th, during Group judging in the Arie Crown Theatre. Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show will be presented by Gina DiNardo, AKC Executive Secretary. People’s Choice will be awarded during group judging on Sunday, August 27.
