Our dogs love to spend time with us! For those of us that can stay home during this difficult time, we’ve had more time than ever with our canine friends.

The American Kennel Club hosted an art contest asking people to show us what “At Home with my Dog” looks like for you! A winner was chosen in each category: grades K-5, grades 6-8, grades 9-12, and adults.

Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists!

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Who can enter the contest?

The AKC “At Home with My Dog” Art Contest is open to all legal residents of the United States. This includes students in grades K-12, as well as adults 18 and older.

    When are entries due?

Entries are accepted beginning on April 13, 2020. All entries must be electronically submitted or postmarked by May 13, 2020.

Can I turn in my art work after May 13?

Unfortunately, no late entries will be accepted.

Where can I read the official rules?

You can view the official rules here.

What type of art will be accepted?

Art can be created using drawing, painting, digital art, mixed media, or sculpture. The art must be an original picture/creation (not copied from somewhere or someone else) and must be created by you. It cannot have been submitted to another contest or promotion.

    Is there a theme?

Yes. The art should be based on the theme of “At Home with My Dog.”

How will the art be judged?

The entries will be split into four categories: grade K-5, grades 6-8, grades 9-12 and adults.

Entries will be judged on creativity (40%), fit to “At Home with My Dog” theme (30%), and quality of picture (30%).

Each entry will be assigned a score based on the above criteria. The five pictures from each category with the highest scores will be finalists and have their art displayed on for public voting. The general public will vote May 18-22. The one picture in each category with the highest number of votes will be deemed the winner for that category.

    What is the prize?

All finalists will receive a certificate. Each of the four winners will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.

How will I find out if I am a finalist/winner?

On or about May 25, 2020, AKC will send an email to the entrant or parent/legal guardian (for entrants under the age of 18) of the finalists and winners, notifying them. AKC will use the email address provided on the entry form. Each entrant or parent/guardian must acknowledge the message within 48 hours.
