Do you love art, dogs, and winning prizes? Then we have great news!

The American Kennel Club is hosting an art contest for K-12 students in the greater New York City area. The top winner in each category will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. Artwork will be on display at the annual AKC Meet The Breeds® event. This event will take place at the Javits Center in New York City on January 25th and 26th, 2020.

    The 2020 event marks the 11th year for AKC Meet The Breeds®. Attendees will be able to interact with almost 200 breeds of dogs in elaborately decorated booths with elements from the breeds’ history creatively displayed as well as opportunities to learn from experts about each breed in attendance.

    Who can enter the contest?

    The AKC Meet the Breeds Art Contest is open to all legal residents of  New York, who are enrolled in school (or homeschooled) and are in grades K-12.

    When are entries due?

    Entries are accepted beginning on October 21, 2019. All entries must be postmarked by December 20, 2019.

    Can I turn in my art work after December 20?

    Unfortunately, no late entries will be accepted.

    What type of art will be accepted?

    Art must be created on a 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper. The picture can be created using drawing, painting, mixed media, or digital art. The art must be an original picture (not copied from somewhere or someone else) and must be created by you. It cannot have been submitted to another contest or promotion.

    Is there a theme?

    All art should depict a dog.

    Where do I send my art?

    The art and entry form signed by a parent/legal guardian can be mailed to:

    How will the art be judged?

    The entries will be split into three grade level categories: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

    Entries will be judged on creativity (40%), fit to “dog” theme (30%), and quality of picture (30%).

    Each entry will be assigned a score based on the above criteria. The twenty-five pictures from each grade level category with the highest scores will be finalists and will be displayed at AKC Meet the Breeds® at the Javits Center in New York City on January 25 and 26, 2020.

    The top scoring picture from each grade level category will be deemed the winner.

    What is the prize?

    All finalists and winners will have their art displayed at AKC Meet the Breeds® at the Javits Center in New York City on January 25 and 26, 2020.

    All finalists will receive a ribbon. All winners will receive a ribbon, pencil and a $50 Amazon gift card.

    How will I find out if I am a finalist/winner?

    On or about January 5, 2020, AKC will send an email to the parent/legal guardian of the finalists and winners, notifying them. AKC will use the email address provided on the entry form. Each parent must acknowledge the message within 48 hours.

    Where will my art be displayed?

    Finalist art will be displayed at AKC Meet the Breeds® at the Javits Center in New York City on January 25 and 26, 2020.

    Please print the entry form, have a parent/guardian sign, and return with art entry. Participants who are 18 years of age or older do not need to have a parent sign, but they must still submit the form.
