The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) program provides a perfect framework for training your dog to become a polite member of society. Based on you and your dog’s training needs, you have multiple options to get started.
You can teach your dog the 10 CGC skills yourself, work with a CGC trainer or attend a CGC training class where the test is given at the end of graduation.
Canine Good Citizen training classes are a great option when you are looking to train your dog in a group environment and work on their socialization skills. Classes are offered at many local AKC Training Clubs and all Petco locations nationwide.
CGC Evaluators are approved trainers that have the experience, skills, and patience to teach everything you need to earn your CGC certificate. Not only are they well versed in CGC training, but they also administer the CGC test.

Remember, when training your dog at home, you’ll still need to make time for plenty of socialization, either through group classes or at your favorite dog park but this series can help you get down the basics.
