AKC presented the first DOGNY Heroic Military Working Dog Award on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the Intrepid Foundation Gala

On Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the Intrepid Fleet Week Gala, AKC Chairman of the Board, Ronald H. Menaker presented the first DOGNY Heroic Military Working Dog Award to Frenke, a German Shepherd Dog and his handler, Sergeant Haynes. The military dog and handler team has distinguished themselves through exceptional service in Afghanistan and Iraq.

At the formal event, Mr. Menaker also presented the original bronze DOGNY German Shepherd Dog statue for permanent installation at The Intrepid Remembers 9/11 Exhibit to honor working dogs and their handlers serving our nation in local communities and throughout the world.

After the opening ceremony aboard the Intrepid Sergeant Haynes, his dog Frenke and a group of family members and friends were served lunch and received a tour of the AKC office at 260 Madison Ave., N.Y.

On Thursday, May 27, 2004 the celebration continues at the Intrepid Fleet Week Gala coined "America's premier thank you" to the men, women and service dogs of the U.S. Armed Forces. Menaker will present on behalf of the American Kennel Club and DOGNY, the first DOGNY Heroic Military Working Dog Award medallion to Sergeant Haynes and Frenke.

At Thursday's formal gala event Mr. Menaker will also be presenting the original bronze DOGNY German Shepherd Dog statue for permanent installation at The Intrepid Remembers 9/11 Exhibit on the Intrepid.



AKC recognized at Intrepid Foundation's 17th annual Fleet Week opening ceremony

The American Kennel Club was recognized during the Parade of Ships ceremony aboard the Intrepid this morning, May 26, 2004. This ceremony signifies the beginning of the 17th annual Intrepid Foundation's Fleet Week celebration in New York City.

Mr. Bill White, the President of the Intrepid Foundation gave thanks to Ron Menaker, Chairman, and the AKC for being a part of the celebration and recognizing the contribution of military working dogs. The recipient of the first DOGNY Heroic Military Working Dog Award, Sergeant Herman Haynes and his German Shepherd Dog, Frenke, were present for the event.
