New York, NY – Highlights from the July 2009 meeting of the AKC® Board of Directors are as follows:

  • The Board retired the kennel name “Danelagh” (Nancy-Carol Draper) for Great Danes.

  • Effective January 1, 2010, all FSS enrolled dogs with three-generation pedigrees will be eligible to compete in all AKC Companion Events.

  • The Lure Coursing Regulations were amended, effective immediately, enabling judges to dismiss a dog for interference.

  • The Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedures for Pointing Breeds were amended, effective August 1, 2010 regarding the use of tracking devices.  Full details are in the July minutes.

  • The Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedures for Pointing Breeds were amended, effective immediately, to update the scouting procedure at Pointing Breed Field Trials.

  • A new FAST title, effective January 1, 2010, was added to the AKC Regulations for Agility Trials. The addition of this title is to encourage exhibitors to continue exhibiting their dogs past the Master FAST titles and help clubs to increase their agility entries.

  • Numerous changes were adopted to the Tracking Regulations, as recommended by the Tracking Advisory Committee. These changes, effective January 1, 2010 are included in the minutes for the July 2009 meeting.

  • The Obedience, Agility, and Rally Regulations were amended, effective April 1, 2010 to provide for mixed-breed dogs.

  • The Irish Water Spaniel breed standard revisions, as published in THE GAZETTE, were approved, effective September 1, 2009.

  • The Match Regulations, were amended effective January 1, 2010, to provide for mixed-breed dogs in Obedience, Rally and Agility Events.

  • Kit A. Bostrom, Overbrook, KS, to represent St. Bernard Club of America

  • Bernard F. X. Ferry, Litita, PA, to represent Irish Terrier Club of America

  • James F. Gibson, Marietta, GA, to represent Kennesaw Kennel Club

  • Gloria Marshall, Neptune, NJ, to represent Bayshore Companion Dog Club
