October 14 is Be Bald and Be Free Day! Ruth and Thomas Roy, from Wellcat Holidays & Herbs, created this day to let your baldpate shine. Skip the comb-overs, hats, toupees, and wigs and be proudly bald . . . or baldly proud. In fact, take a lesson from the canine world. A handful of exotic, elegant breeds are hairless and wear their bald state with boldness and brio. Ideal for people with allergies (or those who just don't like vacuuming), breeds like the Chinese Crested, the Xoloitzcuintli, and others have a charm all their own. Be warned though, the time you save not brushing or vacuuming will be spent explaining to curious strangers just what your dog is. And all that bare skin does require protection from the sun and the cold. Let's take this day to show the bald and free canine category in all its hairless glory! No hair? The better to show off this stunning Xoloitzcuintli physique!

The hairless version of the Chinese Crested isn't actually completely hairless; he has hair on his head, feet, and tail. And because he loves you so much, he'll do almost anything to please, including this. That's one way to celebrate Bald and Free Day!

Hairless dogs don't like the cold, which gives them plenty of opportunities to rock canine fashion.

You may not see many Peruvian Inca Orchids at the dog park, but owners of this ancient breed know that a dog doesn't need hair to be a loyal, intelligent, and, yes, handsome companion.

Even the U.S. has its very own hairless breed, the American Hairless Terrier. Although his baldness may not be suitable for hunting, he's game for just about everything else.

So, in honor of Be Bald and Be Free Day, our hairless canine friends encourage all of you hair-free people to take a lesson from them and celebrate your baldness!
