AKC Responsible Dog Ownership DayAKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day Fetched Great Success
Thanks to your hard work, AKC RDO Day demonstrated again this year that the dog is truly man's best friend. The American Kennel Club® wrapped up its fifth annual celebration of AKC® Responsible Dog Ownership Day in September. More than 370 affiliated clubs and other organizations marked the day by hosting free educational events across the country during September.

Public Education Spotlight: Arlene Czech
Arlene CzechArlene Czech, AKC delegate for the Papillon Club of America Inc., has been visiting nursing homes, assisted living homes and adult groups in the Naples, Florida, area for years. And last summer, at the invitation of a local Salvation Army director, Czech made her first dog presentation for children.

Accompanied by six Papillons and their handlers, Czech entertained and educated two dozen kids who had enrolled in the Salvation Army’s Day Care Summer Camp.

Kids Draw Their Love of Dogs!
Be sure to take a look at the latest winners of the AKC Kids’ Corner Drawing Contest.

This year we asked kids to draw pictures of their dog or any purebred dog performing a basic obedience command or training for an AKC event. Prizes included a copy of The AKC Complete Dog Book for Kids, Bailey’s Purebred Dogs Coloring Book, The AKC’s Guide to Purebred Dogs poster, a Responsible Dog Ownership bookmark and an AKC Guide to Purebred Dogs puzzle. Be sure to tell the young artists you know about Kids’ Corner and the drawing contest. Details about the 2008 contest will be forthcoming.

AKC Multi-club Education Match Welcomes NJ Newcomers
In late September the American Kennel Club® held a day-long AKC Multi-club Education Match on the grounds of the Hunterdon Developmental Center (HDC) in Clinton, N.J. The HDC is a residential facility for disabled adults. The match was designed for newcomers to the sport of purebred dogs and those who wanted to practice dog handling skills without actually competing for Championship points.
