Taking Command August 2017

What’s New from Government Relations August 2017

AKC GR staff have been busy the past several weeks traveling around the country sharing information on our positive and effective approaches to canine legislation.  Everywhere we travelled lawmakers expressed their desire to work with AKC and local clubs and their appreciation of AKC’s common-sense, constructive approach to legislative issues.

Summer, when legislators are home in their districts, is a great time to reach out to lawmakers and the general public and share all the wonderful things you and your clubs do for dogs.  Consider inviting lawmakers to your shows and community events, and providing them information on these good works and the many benefits of purebred dogs.  Check out our most recent issue of the In Session Congressional newsletter to read about AKC’s event on Capitol Hill celebrating purebred dogs.

You may also want to consider hosting a Responsible Dog Ownership Day in your community to educate the general public about purebred dogs and responsible dog ownership.  AKC can provide materials and resources on organizing these fun, educational events.  More information on hosting an event can be found at www.akc.org/rdod.

Whether you have a current issue in your community, or you want to be proactive, AKC GR can help!  Check out our legislative updates (link to legislative updates) to see the latest news across the country, and be sure to visit our AKC Legislative Action Center for downloadable resources, sample letters, and other tools to help you communicate with lawmakers and the public about the value of purebred dogs and responsible dog breeders and owners.
