Pointing Breed Hunt Tests – Judges’ Eligibility

Current Requirements

For all Judges Information please review Chapter 1 of the Regulations for AKC Hunting Tests for Pointing Breeds

Prior to Apprenticeship
Minimum Age: 18 yrs.
Handling Experience: 1 qualifying leg at level to be judged or higher (club’s responsibility to monitor)

Prior to Judging
Apprenticeship: Twice
– at level to be judged or higher
– minimum of 12 dogs total

Written Test: Yes

Seminar: Yes

Handling Experience: 3 qualifying legs
– at the level to be judged or higher (club’s responsibility to monitor)

Field Trial Judges: If a person has judged broke dog field trial stakes, that person is considered to have met the “experience” requirement.

To Maintain Ability to Judge
Written test or Seminar: Either attend a seminar or pass written test every 5 years.

Frequency of Judging: No requirement

Judges Panel Qualifications
Previous Judging Experience: Combined number of points required for the 2 judges for all levels is 8, with at least 4 from level to be judged or higher.


How to Host a Seminar:

To request a seminar, a club must begin by completing the online seminar request form.  Once a workable date is coordinated with a host field rep, your seminar will be advertised and materials will be sent. For more information contact Performance Judges 919-816-3904 or performancejudges@akc.org
