"The Top 10 list in Long Beach has four new breeds this year: the French Bulldog, Shih Tzu, Siberian Husky and Poodle replace last year’s Pomeranian, Rottweiler, Maltese and Pug," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "The Siberian Husky is ranked twenty-third nationally and the French Bulldog, which has been steadily rising in popularity across the country, is ranked twenty-sixth."

"The French Bulldog, ranked twenty-sixth nationally, has been steadily climbing the list across the nation and has risen two spots since last year to become the sixth most popular breed in Los Angeles," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "Toy breeds such as the Pug, Pomeranian and Maltese combine forces in L.A. to nose out breeds such as the Boxer and Beagle."

"The Beagle is back," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "After falling to fourteenth place last year, the Beagle made the largest leap in Louisville’s ‘Top 10’, rising eight spots to sixth place."

"Bulldogs are not only growing in popularity nationally," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "After not making the ‘Top 10’ last year, they are now seventh in Memphis.� Otherwise, with the exception of the Rottweiler in place of the Dachshund, Memphis’ top canine companions are very similar to the national favorites."

"Bulldogs are not only growing in popularity nationally," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "After not making the ‘Top 10’ last year, they are now seventh in Miami. Even more popular are French Bulldogs, up ten spots from fifteenth in 2007 to fifth. The Rottweiler, Maltese and Doberman Pinscher are also local Miami favorites that do not appear on the national list."

"With half of its Top 10 dogs hailing from the AKC’s Sporting group, Milwaukee’s canine preferences clearly lean toward to an active, outdoorsy dog," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "It’s unusual to see a German Shorthaired Pointer or English Springer Spaniel on a Top 10 list for any urban area. Plus, Milwaukee is one of the only cities with not a single Toy dog on the list."

"Music city is still singing the praises of the Labrador Retriever," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "However the Poodle has inched up and switched places - from third to seventh - with the Golden Retriever. Also the Bulldog, which was eleventh in Nashville last year, has made a big leap forward into fourth place."
"The lively Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is another local favorite," added Peterson. "While increasingly popular nationwide, it ranks twenty-fifth nationally but eighth in Nashville."

"The Golden Retriever, a long time national favorite, disappeared from the New Orleans Top 10 after appearing sixth on last year’s Top 10," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "The Doberman Pinscher also disappeared from the Top 10 with the addition of the Bulldog, Shih Tzu and Miniature Schnauzer indicating that the ‘Big Easy’ is trending towards smaller dogs."
