Breeding an Imported Dog

To be eligible for registration, a litter must be the result of a mating between an AKC-registered sire and an AKC-registered dam of the same breed. If a sire or dam of a litter is a foreign-born dog, registered with an acceptable foreign registry, you must apply for the individual AKC registration of the foreign dog before the litter can be registered.

Litters born outside of the United States are not eligible for AKC registration.

To register a litter out of a dam imported in whelp, see AKC's Special Registry Services section for more information.
