Know what the NFL, NBA, and AKC have in common? A lot more than you might think! The National Football League (NFL) governs the sport of professional football. The National Basketball Association (NBA) oversees professional basketball. And the American Kennel Club (AKC) governs the sport of purebred dogs.
There's the NBA Championship for basketball, the Superbowl for football, and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (the "Championship") for purebred dogs.
Each year, thousands of purebred dogs from the United States and other countries compete in the Championship to determine which dog will be the year's global dog show champion. The most recent winner is Coco, a 5-year-old Norfolk Terrier.
The Championship is even more than the top dog show. It brings together the AKC National Obedience Invitational and the AKC National Agility Championship, making the show a one-of-a-kind event that spotlights the nation's top dogs in three AKC events:
That's not all there is to the sport of purebred dogs. In addition to dog shows, agility, and obedience, the AKC offers field trials, hunting tests, earthdog tests, tracking tests, coonhound events, and herding tests and trials.
There's something fun and exciting for every dog lover to participate in alongside their best friend!
