Hillsboro, OR Canine Experience

On Saturday June 14th, more than 400 new dog owners and their dogs participated in the second AKC Canine Experience in Hillsboro, Oregon.

The new dog owners gathered at the Washington County Fairgrounds to learn about the many activities available to the owners of AKC-registered purebred dogs. Members of local AKC-affiliated dog clubs volunteered their time to teach participants about grooming, conformation show handling, junior showmanship, and obedience events. Local club volunteers and their dogs also demonstrated rally and agility skills.

Over 30 breed clubs participated in a program to teach participants about the various breeds.

The morning of instruction was followed by an AKC-sanctioned B match that helped participants practice their newly-learned dog-showing skills.

The AKC Canine Experience couples longtime and seasoned AKC club members with new purebred dog owners. The event helps mentor new exhibitors and shares the joys and opportunities that participation in AKC events provides families and their valued pets.
