AKC Welcomes 2009 Summer Interns

The American Kennel Club® is pleased to welcome four students participating in the 2009 AKC® Internship Program. The program isgeared towards college students with a background and interest in purebred dogs and is designed to further their professional development, as well as help AKC identify potential employees with experience in both AKC operations and the sport.

AKC interns will work on specific projects aimed at their interests and career goals. In addition, they will have weekly meetings with a variety of AKC speakers to expose them to all facets of AKC.

The following students will be employed at AKC as interns for a period of eight weeks, from June 1 to July 24, 2009:

New York Headquarters

Andrew D'Ambrose – Archives. Andrew is from Woodbridge, Connecticut. He is currently in the Justice & Law Administration program at Western Connecticut State University, studying criminal justice. Next fall, he will be a junior, and taking on a minor in Accounting under the Ancell School of Business. He also intends to continue his education with a Masters in Computer Science. His family presently owns two Akitas and two Bernese Mountain Dogs, both of which are being shown. He is a board member of the Elm City Kennel Club, and works at the winter and summer shows as well as the summer match show, doing various tasks. He recently received the AKC Community Achievement Award for his AKC recognized Responsible Dog Ownership Day.

Lindsay Hill – Communications. Lindsay is from Oradell, New Jersey and just completed her freshman year at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Currently she is considering a path in Psychology, Sociology, or possibly both. Lindsay has Labrador Retrievers, was a Junior Handler, and has apprenticed with a Labrador Retriever breeder. She has participated in AKC’s CGC program and has trained one of her own Labs to be a Therapy Dog and works with her other Lab in Agility and Obedience.

Raleigh Operations

Kathleen Garska – Event Operations/Special Services. Kathleen lives in Houston, Texas. She is an upcoming senior at The University of Houston, where she is majoring in Marketing with a minor in Management. In high school, Kathleen showed her Kerry Blue Terrier in Junior Showmanship as well as conformation. The two also took obedience, agility, and handling classes for fun at their local kennel club. After she graduates, Kathleen would like to get a second dog and show in conformation.

Joshua Greenberg – Event Operations. Josh resides in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated in May from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with degrees in Accounting, Finance, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology and was recently admitted into the MBA Program at UNC Charlotte for the Fall of 2009, with plans of attending law school in the future. He has been showing Briards in conformation for 17 years, finishing his first dog to her Championship by the age of 9. In addition to showing in Canada and the U.S., Josh has made multiple appearances in the show ring at the Crufts Dog Show in the United Kingdom and has had the privilege to observe conformation and companion event judging as a spectator in France, Wales, and the Netherlands.
