New York, NY – The American Kennel Club (AKC®) and the Intrepid Sea , Air & Space Museum will present the DOGNY Heroic Military Working Dog Award during a Veteran’s Day Ceremony. The ceremony will take place Friday, November 11 at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, West 46th Street and 12th Avenue at Hudson River Park in Manhattan.

A special AKC presentation will honor military working dogs and their handlers who are serving our nation throughout the world. A military dog and handler team , who have distinguished themselves through exceptional service in Kuwait and Afghanistan , will be honored with a medal from the AKC.

DOGNY: America ‘s Tribute to Search and Rescue Dogs is a public art and fund raising initiative whose goal is to raise much needed financial resources for professional and volunteer Canine Search and Rescue organizations throughout the United States. A solid bronze rendition of the German Shepherd Dog symbolizes the AKC’s charitable program and resides permanently at The Intrepid Remembers 9/11 exhibit on the Intrepid.

The Veteran’s Day Ceremony is an annual celebration hosted by the Intrepid Sea , Air & Space Museum and the City of New York. The celebration includes an impressive line of distinguished guests in a moving ceremony that honors our nation’s Veterans. The program aims to educate visitors of all ages about the contributions of veterans throughout our nation’s history. This year, Country Music star, Trace Adkins, will be joining the ceremony to sing the national anthem and his hit song “Arlington.”
