THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB ASKS KIDS TO SHOW HOW THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS THROUGH ART

April 11, 2012 – AKC Kids' Corner 2012 Art Contest Launched

New York, NY – The American Kennel Club® (AKC) is pleased to announce the 2012 AKC Kids' Corner Art Contest is now open for entries. The contest this year celebrates responsible dog ownership. Children are asked to draw a picture showing how they are a responsible dog owner.

Being a responsible dog owner is the corner stone for raising a happy, healthy dog. The AKC is committed to assisting owners in this task no matter what age.

“Owning a dog is not just a privilege-it's a responsibility, but the rewards are endless,” said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. “We welcome young dog owners to depict how they are responsible through their art.”

School children in grades K-8 are encouraged to submit artwork. Judging is done in two parts to accommodate school schedules. Artwork is accepted throughout the year until November 15, 2012 with judging taking place in July for art work received on or before June 15, 2012 and again in December for artwork received after the June deadline and before November 15, 2012.

First place winners of the AKC Kids’ Art Contest will receive an adorable Steiff® plush canine, beautifully depicting one of AKC’s most beloved dog breeds. In addition first place winners will get an AKC book bag and The Complete Dog Book for kids. First, second and third prize winners will all receive The Dog Listener DVD, Bailey the Beagle’s Responsible Dog Owner’s Coloring Book and bookmark, and AKC’s Guide To Purebred Dogs poster.
