The American Kennel Club (AKC) and AKC Companion Animal Recovery (AKC-CAR) continue to offer help to those rescuing and housing animals affected by the fires. As the fires subside, and the full scope of the damage is known, it is expected that requests for assistance will be numerous. AKC will continue to lead efforts in making supplies and other support available to the organizations dealing with displaced and injured animals.

AKC board member and AKC-CAR President Dr. Carmen Battaglia is in California today visiting the Escondido Humane Society and Norton Air Force Base, where many animals are being housed temporarily. He is making the in-person visit in order to assess the situation and determine needs so that relief efforts may be focused accordingly. Dr. Battaglia will visit a number of shelters and humane societies tomorrow, and hold a press conference about a remarkable recovery made possible by microchip registered with the AKC-CAR database.

Donations are being made by various companies including Hartz, Iams, Cherrybrook, Schering-Plough and Digital Angel. AKC continues to raise funds in order to be able to purchase specific supplies through the AKC-CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund.
