The Audience Voted and Named the Winner of
Meet the Breeds “Cat Idol” Competition

Described as a charming, laid-back, and loveable gentle giant by his owners, Walker, an 8½ year old Maine Coon from Richmond, Texas claimed the top spot at the second annual Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA®)-Iams Cat Idol competition during Meet the Breeds, the largest showcase of cats and dogs, on October 17th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

Walker, whose full name is GC GP NW Nascat Gwydion-of-Gradach, is a large, heavy boned cat, weighing in at 25 lbs.  He is the loving pet of Jim and Donna Hinton, and he won the audience’s hearts by receiving the most applause to win CFA-Iams Cat Idol.  As the 2010 winner, Walker received a year’s supply of food from Iams, a carrier from Sturdi Products, and litter from Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Litters.

Walker’s owner Donna says he is very debonair.  “He is charismatic and good looking for an older guy,” said Hinton.  “If anyone had to play him in a movie, it would absolutely be Sean Connery.”

From the Afghan Hound to the Turkish Angora, the Meet the Breeds event showcased 160 AKC registered dog breeds and 40 CFA registered cat breeds in booths individually decorated to depict each breed’s country of origin, historical purpose/function, and attributes as a family pet.  The annual family-friendly event is an opportunity for potential pet owners to interact with responsible breeders and play with dogs and cats while educating themselves about responsible pet ownership and choosing the right pet for their lifestyle.
