The American Kennel Club® is pleased to welcome Invisible Fence® Brand and ADT Security Services as returning sponsors and Hill’s® Science Diet® Brand Pet Food as a new 2010 sponsor of AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days (AKC RDO Days). A nationwide initiative in its eighth year, AKC RDO Days engage dog-related organizations across the country to educate the public about the importance of being a responsible dog owner and to celebrate the deep bond between humans and their canine companions.

The AKC will hold its flagship AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day event in Raleigh, N.C. on September 25, 2010. It will include AKC Canine Good Citizen® testing, agility demonstrations, games, free brochures, giveaways and the ever-popular AKC Meet the Breeds® exhibit featuring dozens of AKC breeds for the public to learn about and meet.  In addition, nearly  5,000 AKC affiliated dog clubs as well as dog-related organizations nationwide are invited to take part by holding a community event that publicly promotes responsible dog ownership anytime during the month of September.

Last year, nearly 600 dog clubs and organizations hosted AKC RDO Day events, reaching millions of dog lovers and potential pet owners through event participation and local media coverage. This year, Invisible Fence®Brand, the leader in electronic pet containment, will participate in local events where dealers and distributors are available. Hill’s® Science Diet® Small & Toy Breed pet food will offer information about their products in kits going out to AKC clubs and participate in local events as possible. ADT Security Services will distribute their popular Pet Fire Safety Window Clings at local events as well.

“We are pleased to join up with AKC for another great AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days,” said Tamara Mach, Marketing Manager of Invisible Fence® Brand.  “For the past 35 years, we’ve been dedicated to keeping dogs safe at home, and the AKC responsible dog ownership message really complements our core mission.”

“Hill’s® Science Diet® Small & Toy Breed pet food offers caring dog owners the best nutritional choice in the market, so we’re happy to partner with an organization dedicated to providing owners with the latest information about dog care and responsible dog ownership,” said Kostas Kontopanos, Marketing VP at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, makers of Science Diet® Small & Toy Breed pet food. “We hope that club members will enjoy the information they receive about the product in the RDO kits and we look forward to participating in some events around the country.”

To promote fire safety education for pet owners, ADT will distribute window clings for RDO Days. “We are looking forward to taking part in AKC RDO Days once again this year,” said Bob Tucker, Director of PR for ADT Security Services. “The Pet Fire Safety Window Clings we distribute help to alert fire and other emergency officials to the number and type of animals in the house, which could potentially save many pets’ lives. We are happy to be able to offer these clings to clubs around the country this year.”

“AKC is delighted to have Invisible Fence®, Hill’s® Science Diet® Small & Toy Breed pet food and ADT Security Services taking part in our AKC RDO Days events this September. All of these companies have been industry leaders in coming up with innovative ways to keep pets safe,” said Lisa Peterson, AKC’s Director of Communications. “We appreciate their support of responsible dog ownership.”
