New York, NY – Highlights from the March 13, 2007 meeting of the AKC Delegates are as follows:

  • At the re-convened Board Meeting held after the Delegate Meeting, Ronald H. Menaker was re-elected Chairman and David C. Merriam Vice-Chairman of the AKC Board of Directors.

  • The Delegates elected Dr. Patricia Haines, Mrs. Patti Strand, and Mr. Kenneth Marden to the AKC Board as the Class of 2011.

  • The following clubs were elected as members of the American Kennel Club:

    • Canada Del Oro Kennel Club (Marana, AZ).

    • Classic Toy Dog Club of Western Massachusetts

    • Great Western Terrier Association of Southern California.

  • Article VIII of the Bylaws was amended to change the timeline for AKC Board elections. The Nominating Committee deadline is now October 15th rather than December 1, and all candidate petitions must be received by November 15, rather than February 1. The required number of signatures on Board candidate petitions is now 50 rather than 20.

  • There were several housekeeping amendments to the Rules Applying to Dog Shows adopted. They were intended to:

    • Formally define the 6-9 and 9-12 month Puppy Class divisions.

    • Remove an obsolete reference to a non-existent Sample Premium List.

    • Clarify the rule prohibiting a Best of Breed award at designated specialties in breeds which have varieties.

    • Remove an impractical requirement for clubs that have an off-site show veterinarian.

  • The AKC Field Trial Rules for Beagles and for Dachshunds were amended to enable a field trial secretary to retain entry forms.

  • The first quarter Community Achievement award winners were announced. The honorees are:

    • The Northern Neck Kennel Club

    • Andrew D'Ambrose, The Elm City Kennel Club

    • Janet DiNitto, The Central New York Kennel Club
