Dave Klug Wins Annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Commemorative Poster Competition
Klug Flown to Long Beach For Show; Poster Available On-Site or at www.akc.org
The American Kennel Club® and Eukanuba are pleased to announce that Dave Klug of Pittsburgh, PA is the winning artist in the annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship commemorative art poster competition.
"The image features cloud formations as various AKC registered breeds and conveys the canine-human relationship and our deep connection with dogs. I'm very happy with it and am very proud to have it chosen as this year’s AKC National Championship poster," said Klug.
Klug, a prominent figure in the world of illustration, says that he "works with the best from Wall Street to Sesame Street and all avenues in between." He spends downtime creating unique folk art pieces of his dog Henry, or working on book ideas that always seem to involve a dog. "I just love dogs!" said Klug. "There's always been a dog in my family since childhood. Now my kids are growing up with dogs. Having them in the household makes you more aware of the simple goodness in life."
Klug will receive $1,000 and a four-day/three-night trip for two to the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach, Calif., December 13-14, 2008. The show will air nationwide on Discovery and Animal Planet on January 31, 2009.
A limited edition of 500 posters will be created at a price of $25 each. Klug will be available to autograph his work during the show at the AKC booth. The poster is also available now on AKC’s website at www.akc.org/store/posters. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Take the Lead (http://www.takethelead.org), a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to providing direct services, support and care for all qualified participants in the sport of dogs who suffer from the devastating realities of life-threatening or terminal illnesses.
"Donating our proceeds to Take the Lead is an honor," said Show Chairman and AKC Chairman Ron Menaker. "This organization has gone above and beyond in assisting members of our sport in times of struggle, and buying this year’s poster gives dog lovers the opportunity to take home a piece of the show, while at the same time helping those in need."
Every year, nearly 3,000 of the world’s top canine competitors from all 50 states and more than 70 countries are invited to vie for Best in Show honors and a total of $225,000 at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. The event is one of the most highly competitive and exciting events in the canine world. It is held in conjunction with the AKC National Obedience Invitational and AKC Agility Invitational, representing the culmination of a year of competition in three AKC sports: Conformation, Obedience and Agility.
