All 153 AKC-Recognized Breed Standards and Histories Included with Photographs
The American Kennel Club has released the 20th edition of The Complete Dog Book, published by Ballantine Books. Previously revised in 1997, the volume has been a bestselling dog book for over seventy-five years (with over 2 million copies sold).
The newly revised The Complete Dog Book includes the official breed standards, updated breed histories and photographs of the 153 breeds recognized by the AKC. There are additional color photographs throughout the book. The volume also has important information about canine health and nutrition, training, joining a dog club, responsible breeding and more.
"The Complete Dog Book has served as the premier reference on purebred dogs since the first printing in 1929," said Dennis B. Sprung, president of the AKC. "It is the only source for all the breed standards and everything else you need to know about choosing, living with, and enjoying purebred dogs. It is an essential volume for every purebred dog owner, lover, and owner-to-be."
The new edition includes the 12 breeds that have gained recognition since the last printing in 1997 - Anatolian Shepherd Dog, Black Russian Terrier, German Pinscher, Glen of Imaal Terrier, Havanese, Löwchen, Neapolitan Mastiff, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Parson Russell Terrier, Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Spinone Italiano and Toy Fox Terrier.
The Complete Dog Book will be available beginning February 3, 2006 at all major book sellers throughout the country and may also be purchased via the AKC Store. The MSRP for The Complete Dog Book is $35.00.
