Texas Accepting Applications for Advisory Committee to Draft Breeder Regulations
House Bill 1451, which establishes licensing and inspections programs for certain dog and cat breeders, will be administered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). TDLR has setup a webpage about this program here. They have also established an email list for updates regarding this program and interested parties can subscribe by clicking here and selecting “Licensed Breeders Program.”
TDLR is working to assemble the advisory committee mandated by HB 1451. This committee will assist in drafting the regulations which will specify the standards and procedures for this program, and will advise TDLR on the administration and enforcement on the program including the establishment of fees.
The applications for the committee are now available at TDLR’s website by clicking here. Applicants can also request an application from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation by telephone at (800) 803-9202, by FAX at (512) 475 2874 or by email at email@example.com. Applicants may be asked to appear for an interview; however, any required travel for an interview would be at the applicant's expense. All applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Central time on September 15, 2011 to be considered for these vacancies.
The advisory committee will consist of two members who are licensed breeders, two veterinarians, two members who represent animal welfare organizations who have offices in Texas, two members of the public and one member who is an animal control officer. The members will be appointed by the Executive Commissioner of TDLR.
The American Kennel Club encourages any breeders who will be required to obtain a license to apply to serve on this committee. If you would like to speak with an AKC staff member about what is entailed in serving in this capacity, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-816-3720.
