AKC Government Relations has recently learned that House Bill 63, which would prohibit counties and municipalities from enacting breed-specific laws, is being considered by the Senate Public Affairs Committee tomorrow (Friday, March 8).
The bill was amended in the House to no longer include municipalities with home rule. While the AKC is disappointed with this amendment, we still believe this bill is an excellent step toward protecting the rights of all responsible dog owners.
New Mexico residents are encouraged to attend tomorrow’s hearing and contact the members of the committee and respectfully ask them to support House Bill 63.
