Notice to the Herding Community:
The AKC Performance Events Department is in the process of putting in place a new Herding Advisory Committee. The 2006 Herding Advisory Committee (2006 HAC) will be charged to review the current AKC Herding Regulations and to propose changes and updates that will improve the AKC Herding Program.
The AKC Performance Events Department has asked nine Parent Clubs to each send a representative to sit on the 2006 HAC. The following breeds will be directly represented on the committee: Australian Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Belgian Tervuren, Border Collies, Collies, German Shepherd Dogs, Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Rottweilers, and Shetland Sheepdogs. Those breeds were chosen for receiving more than 100 AKC herding awards during 2005. In addition to these 9 representatives, the AKC Standing Committee on Herding, Earthdog, and Coursing Events will be nominating 2 more representatives. The Chair of the 2006 HAC will be chosen from among those 11 representatives after the committee is put in place by July 1st, 2006.
Although some herding breeds might not be represented in the composition of the 2006 HAC, it is the definite intention of the Performance Events Department to involve all breeds participating in the AKC Herding Program, to involve all active herding clubs, and to involve the whole herding community. As soon as the 2006 HAC is put in place, the AKC Performance Events Department will contact directly all active herding clubs, and will contact the whole herding community through the AKC web pages. An electronic mailbox will be available to the herding participants to submit, initially, input to the 2006 HAC. The AKC web pages will then be used to display action items under consideration by the HAC, and the electronic mailbox will then be used by the herding participants to submit feedback at every step of the way.
As soon as more information is available, it will be posted on these web pages.
