The Michigan House Regulatory Reform Committee is expected to vote on Tuesday, June 10, on a measure that, among other provisions, will:
Limit the number of dogs that can be kept on a single premises and
Define a “large scale commercial breeder kennel” based on how many intact female dogs a person owns, rather than actual sales.
The American Kennel Club is asking the committee to remove the definition of “high volume commercial dog breeder kennel” and this arbitrary ownership limit.
The bill also creates new regulations and reporting requirements for animal control, and new regulations regarding the importation of dogs into the state. The AKC does not object to these provisions.
Michigan residents are strongly encouraged to contact the House Regulatory Reform Committee and their State Representative and ask them to oppose the definition of “large scale commercial breeder” and the ownership limit in House Bill 5095.
