New York, NY — AKC® Chief Operating Officer John Lyons today announced the retirement of Mary Ann Alston, Director of Judging Operations. Alston will officially retire in July 2005. She joined the organization in 2000 after three decades in the sport, including many years as a professional handler, breeder, club officer and AKC judge.

Hired as Director of the newly created Registered Handlers Program, Alston became the Director of Judging Operations in 2003. In this role she successfully oversaw all aspects of the judging approval process.

"Throughout her tenure at the AKC, Mary Ann has been both a great asset in the judging and professional handling arenas," said Lyons. "Her extensive experience as both a former professional handler and judge has benefited the AKC in countless ways. We will miss Mary Ann but look forward to seeing her back in the show ring judging."
