New York, NY — On Saturday, Nov. 20th, the Thanksgiving Classic Cluster hosted a seminar, on behalf of the AKC Registered Handlers Program, for those interested in becoming judges for Junior Showmanship.
Presented by AKC executive field representatives Peter Gaeta and Robert Fisher, the seminar followed Best in Show judging at the Windham County Kennel Club during the cluster in Springfield, MA.
More than 40 people attended the seminar, satisfying a portion of the requirement to judge Juniors. Participants included juniors, parents, judges, aspiring judges, professional handlers and fanciers just interested in Juniors.
The seminar included discussion about the change in the age requirement for Juniors. Beginning January 2005, Junior Showmanship classes will be restructured to include classes for juniors as young as nine years old. Mr. Gaeta and Mr. Fisher emphasized the added responsibility with regard to the safety and welfare of the young competitors and their dogs. All were encouraged to sign up for the Junior Showmanship Email Newsletter at http://www.akc.org/enewsletter/jrnews/signup.cfm.
