Effective with the May 12, 2009 Point Schedule, there has been a realignment of states in some of the Divisions as follows:
Division 6: CO, NE, KS, MN, IA, MO, WI
Division 8: WA, OR
Division 13: ID, NV, UT, MT, WY, ND, SD
The Board reappointed Patti Strand, Alan Kalter, and Gail LaBerge to serve two-year terms on the American Kennel Club Political Action Committee Board of Directors.
The Regulations for AKC Coonhound Bench Shows, Field Trials, Nite Hunts, and Water Races were amended to clarify the procedure whereby a non-AKC registered Coonhound may enter a Coonhound event by submitting the registration application and fee at the time of entry.
The Board adopted a requirement, effective for all New Breed Judging applications received after December 31, 2008, that the New Breed applicant attend a Basic Judging Institute presented by AKC prior to requesting regular status, but not earlier than two years prior to submission of the initial application. This Institute would also be used on a remedial basis for judges identified by evaluation as having procedural problems.
The Beagle Field Trial Rules were amended to permit dogs to run in trios for the first series at a Brace Trial, if there are 21 or more entries in a class.
Effective July 1, 2009, Airedale Terriers will be eligible to compete in Spaniel Hunting Tests, as requested by the Airedale Terrier Club of America.
The Junior Showmanship Regulations were amended to provide for a Participation Ribbon for Novice Class exhibitors that do not receive a placement, at the option of the club. It is to be light blue and it is not required to include the club name and the date.
