Highlights from the July 2005 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors are as follows:

  • The Rally Regulations have been amended, effective October 1, 2005, reducing the judging rate from 30 dogs per hour to 22 dogs per hour, and clarifying how exercises should be scored.

  • The Agility Regulations have been amended, effective September 2005, enabling Specialty Clubs to hold trials limited to breeds in their Group, and Group clubs to hold trials for all breeds or just for breeds in their Groups.

  • The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen breed standard has been amended as published in the AKC Gazette with the changes effective August 31, 2005.

  • There were revisions to the policy on visiting judges. A visiting judge from an AKC recognized registry may be approved to judge up to six assignments in one calendar year. Approval may include Groups, providing the judge is approved for all individual breeds within those Groups in their own country of registry. Best in Show judging approval will be consistent with the current AKC Best in Show approval policy. In no case will judges be approved to judge individual breeds for which they are not approved in their country of registry.

  • Effective July 1, 2006, Cardigan Welsh Corgis and Pembroke Welsh Corgis will be listed as such in all AKC Publications, rather than as Welsh Corgis (Cardigan), and Welsh Corgis (Pembroke).
